Draft WYM Faith and Practice. We have received the draft revision of the Wilmington Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice. It is emphasized that this is a revision designed to incorporate changes approved by Yearly Meeting over the past two decades and is not intended to break new ground. Our input is due to WYM on July 1. WYM requests one of four responses:
1. Approve
2. Approve with minor changes
3. Do not approve for stated reasons
4. Stand aside
Ministry and Counsel proposes the following process:
May 6: Patricia Thomas presents an overview of the draft at fellowship breakfast. The text is available on CD. A copy may be requested by any friend. In addition, we have one hard copy; however, others may be obtained by applying to the recording clerk.
Jun 3: Friends offer input at fellowship breakfast. After discussion, suggestions will be gathered by Ministry and Counsel
Jun 19: Ministry and Counsel considers a draft response, should one be necessary, to take to meeting for business.
Jun 20: Meeting for Business approves draft
Jul 1: Campus Friends Meeting submits response to Wilmington Yearly Meeting
The meeting
approved this process.
Contact with distant friends. Gretchen Huddleston wishes to remain a member in memory of her father, Phil Holmes. Kelly Snider has not responded, possibly because of difficulties in reaching her. We will try again. There is also the question of the status of Phil’s grandchildren, who are approaching college age
The report was
approved.
Old BusinessRetreat. Final arrangements were made for the retreat to be held at Quaker Knoll Camp April 20-22.
New BusinessMiami Quarterly Meeting will take place on May 20 at Dayton Friends Meeting. We are co-hosts. The meeting discussed what contribution we might make. Patricia Thomas will coordinate with the Dayton clerk.
Your Father’s Kitchen. Our turn to serve lunch at Your Father’s Kitchen comes up again on June 2. Linda Sears’ family has avidly supported this the last two times. Patricia will contact Linda to see if they want to take it on again.
Moratorium on Executions. Ken Boardwell of Community Friends is leading a drive for Ohio to declare a moratorium on executions in order to conduct an ab initio study the whole question of capital punishment . He is seeking minutes from other meetings endorsing this program. Lenna Mae and Larry Gara will draft such a minute for Campus Friends and bring it to Meeting for Business.
FCNL letter writing request. Lenna Mae Gara reported that FCNL is requesting friends to write their senators to vote for approval of the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act, Senate Bill 185.
