Corporal punishment
The threshing meeting on corporal punishment is set for Wednesday, Jan 23, at the home of Dale Hayes and Terry Miller

Fifth Sunday
Ministry and Counsel is considering moving the Fifth Sunday programs to after the rise of meeting instead of before in hopes of increasing attendance. This involves some logistical planning, not all of which is clear at present. The decision was made to take it to Meeting for Business for input. The Fifth Sunday schedule for 2008 is:

Mar 30 Roger Schroeder
Jun 29 Patricia Thomas
Aug 31 Ron Rembert (?)
Nov 30 TBA

State of Society Report
The report is due Mar 31. We are planning a discussion meeting at Fellowship Breakfast on Feb 3, where we will read the relevant Bible verses and queries and solicit input from friends. Bob Powell will use the results to draft the report, which he will present to Ministry and Counsel on Feb 15. Ministry and Counsel will take the approved report to Meeting for Business in February.

Health of members was reviewed. Roger Schroeder requested a clearness committee to sit with him as he copes with his health problems and changes in his business. The committee will consist of Patricia Thomas, Dale Hayes, Ron Rembert and Bob Powell.

Dale Hayes’s ministry oversight committee
Dale Hayes made his annual report to the committee. Changes in his father’s condition now make it possible for Dale to return to ministry and a number of opportunities are opening up for him.

The report was approved.

Friends gathered with a time of centering and a query from WYM Queries.

Minutes of the November meeting were approved with the correction of an error in the last item. Campus Friends will not provide an evening meal at yearly meeting; instead, we will host lunch on Saturday, 26 July.

Treasurer’s Report – Dale Hayes – attached to these minutes
The Treasurer expressed concern that giving has been “anemic” during the first quarter of the fiscal year. Contributions are not keeping pace with spending, let alone compiling the cushion we need for our end-of-year discretionary charitable donations.

The Treasurer, in accordance with new IRS regulations, will be sending everyone a statement of giving during the calendar year 2007. Unfortunately, procedures were not in place to track checks written for community support on First Day each month. Friends will need to factor that into the report for tax purposes.

The report was approved.

Ministry & Counsel – Patricia Thomas reporting for Roger Schroeder

Fall Retreat
The committee reviewed the Fall Retreat and concluded that it was a valuable addition to meeting life. Appreciation was expressed to all who helped and to all who took part

Fifth Sunday
Ron Rembert and Linda Sears will speak at the last Fifth Sunday program of the year, provided they are in town.

Ministry and Counsel proposes to alter the Fifth Sunday format by moving it to a coffee hour after the rise of meeting. Details will be worked out by Ministry and Counsel. The first Fifth Sunday of 2008 occurs on 30 March. Roger Schroeder will speak, Dale Hayes will provide refreshments and Patricia Thomas will make coffee. The next Fifth Sunday is 29 June. Patricia Thomas will speak. We are still looking for speakers for 31 August and 30 November

Call for State of Society Report and Memorial Minutes
Chris Swisshelm’s memorial minute has been submitted. The State of Society Report queries and associated Bible verses have been received. The theme this year is “Do you wish to be made whole?” (John 5:2-9). As we have done in past years, we will consider the queries at the February Fellowship Breakfast and gather input from the meeting. Ministry and Counsel will then draft a minute and bring it to meeting for business. The report is due 31 March.

Corporal punishment threshing meeting
Dale and Terry cannot host this meeting on 29 Jan as previously planned owing to teaching commitments. The meeting will take place instead on 23 Jan. See the schedule for details.

Oversight of Dale Hayes’s ministry
Dale will make his yearly report at the January meeting.

The report was approved.

WYM internship program

A committee has been from in Wilmington Yearly Meeting to institute an internship program aimed at leadership development in WYM. The committee is clerked by Lois Hackney. Three to six interns would be chosen and would primarily be engaged in conducting Bible Schools in monthly meetings over the summer. The interns would receive a stipend in return for twenty hours of work per week. Monthly meetings are requested to work the interns into their programs and in some cases to provide hosting.

The program was discussed by the meeting. We have no children in the meeting and do not conduct a Bible School. However, merit was found in the aims of the program and the meeting approved contributing $50 to support the work of the interns.

The meeting concluded with a period of silent worship.
