Friends gathered with a time of centering and a query from WYM Queries.
Minutes of the May meeting were
approved.
Treasurer’s Report –
Dale Hayes – attached to these minutesThe amount of contributions last month was small. Although all obligations and assessments have been paid, we are facing a significant shortfall (about $3000) that foreshadows an inability to make all of our discretionary giving payments as budgeted ($1500). Our current checking balance is only about $700.
The report was
approved. The meeting
decided to send out a letter of appeal to all members. The letter is attached to these minutes.
Ministry & Counsel –
Dale Hayes and Canby Jones reportingRoger Schroeder requested temporary relief from his duties as clerk of Ministry and Counsel, which was granted effective immediately. Patricia Thomas will clerk until further notice. Roger has requested a circle of care and will submit a list of names he would like to see serve on it.
Distant Friends Canby Jones contacted Kirk Halliday, who wishes to retain membership. Ruth Stuckey contacted Wes Stratton who also wants to remain a member. We still have not been able to contact Kelly Snyder. Patricia will continue her efforts.
Fifth Sunday Program Ron Rembert and Linda Sears have agreed to speak on Jul 29.
Draft Faith and Discipline Inputs from the two breakfast sessions were reviewed . These sessions indicated that the meeting should respond with Option B, approval with specified changes. Bob Powell was tasked to make the response on behalf of the meeting. That response is attached to these minutes.
Health of Members was reviewed.
The next meeting of Ministry and Counsel will take place on Jul 17 at 9:30 am in Canby Jones’s apartment.
The report was
approved.
Old BusinessFUM DVD on Kenya Meeting Richard Coleman has, as requested, reviewed this DVD. He reports that the DVD makes a strong, emotional appeal for funds, but lacks any detail on budget issues, expenses, etc.

Dear Friends:
We write to inform you of a shortfall in Campus Friends budget as we approach the July 31 end of our fiscal year. According to the treasurer’s report at our June meeting for business, we do not have sufficient funds in our account to cover the amount budgeted for our yearly discretionary contributions. With less than one month remaining in the fiscal year, we have spent approximately $1400 more than we have received in contributions. Our checking account currently holds just under $700 and we need $1543 just to make all the end-of-year expenditures that we have budgeted to support the various Quaker organizations to which we ordinarily contribute.
Our hope is to end the year in the same good financial shape we began. We do not require people to tithe, pledge, or commit themselves to giving to the Meeting. We trust, however, that each of you values the good work the Meeting and the organizations which it supports do among its members, the Religious Society of Friends, and the world at large. We therefore humbly request that you at this time look into your hearts and contribute to Campus Friends as you are able.
Yours in the Light,
Patricia Thomas
Clerk
Campus Friends MeetingComments on Draft Faith and Practice
July 1, 2007
After careful consideration, The Campus Friends Meeting opts for Response B: we approve the draft with minor changes as noted below.
Referring to p. 29, lines 229-232, the sense of our meeting is that this section too narrowly restricts the context of worship to a father-child relationship. We suggest replacing this material with a simple statement to the effect that “The concern is to broaden the condition of worship to include an open invitation to a relationship with the divine.”
The quotation of the entire fourth chapter of Ephesians as an introduction to the spiritual community (p. 25) is apposite, but it needs an introduction. We suggest: “The following quotation gives a wonderful summary of how the spiritual community lives, is inspired, and loves.”
We suggest changing the discussion in Chapter 5, p. 37, line 138 to “Disownment.”
Campus Friends Meeting thanks the committee for the painstaking care it has exercised in bringing forth this draft.
Bob Powell,
Recording Clerk
