Friends gathered with a time of centering and a query from WYM Queries.

Minutes of the October meeting

The minutes were approved with one technical correction.

Treasurer’s Report – Dale Hayes – attached to these minutes

Dale reported that we no longer qualify for the group subscription rate for Quaker Life. Friends must renew individually if they wish to continue receiving the publication.

The meeting currently gets two copies of Quaker Life. We put one copy in Watson Library and one in the meeting house. It was proposed that we reduce this to one copy to be deposited in Watson Library. The meeting approved.

The college subscribes to Friend’s Journal. We put our copy in the Kelly Center library. It was proposed that we put the current copy in the meeting house and transfer the previous month’s copy to the Kelly Center library. The meeting approved.

The OVYM assessment has increased by $36. The meeting approved amending the budget to accommodate the increase. Specifically, the OVYM line is to $1736 and that additional expense is to be offset by increasing the Contribution Meeting Support line to $436.

Dale has been having trouble getting bank statements on time. He has taken steps to get the statements by e-mail.

The report was approved.

Ministry & Counsel – Roger Schroeder

Memorial Minute for Phil Holmes. All corrections have been made. Patricia Thomas is doing the final draft. The question was raised about whether memorial minutes are submitted to Quaker Life and/or Friends Journal. Lenna Mae Gara will check to see if a fee is involved.

Lucy Steinitz’s AIDS appeal. The meeting reviewed the appeal and took the following actions:

Membership questions. The effort continues to establish which of our distant members and young Friends wish to remain on our rolls. The meeting approved the following specific steps

Health of members was reviewed

State of Society report. Ministry and Counsel proposes the following schedule for preparing the report, the theme of which this year is “Living Stones.”

Extended Sunday activities. Roger will contact Richard Coleman to check the state of arrangements with the General Denver.

The report was approved.

Old Business

Inner Search. Canby Jones has obtained three copies of Reflections on Divine Love by Julian of Norwich. Inner Search will explore Mother Julian’s writings for the foreseeable future.

Youth Center. Terry Miller and Lenna Mae Gara have decided that they can provide snacks during the shortened Thanksgiving week.

New Business

Meeting retreat
. Quaker Knoll camp is opening up to the public. This opens the possibility of reserving it for a meeting retreat. There is no fee, but donations are gratefully received. The meeting approved the idea and directed that the following steps be taken.

All Campus Worship The Office of the Campus Minister is proposing to institute an All Campus Worship Meeting on Wednesdays from 12:15-12:45 pm during February, March and April. A “semi-programmed” meeting for worship is contemplated. Patricia Thomas asked if Campus Friends Meeting would like to be a co-sponsor of this activity. The meeting approved.

Campus Friends Meeting is a meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, often called Quakers. Campus Friends Meeting meets every Sunday at 10:30 am in the Quaker Heritage Meetinghouse on the campus of Wilmington College. Campus Friends Meetings for worship follow the unprogrammed tradition. We have no pastor and no order of service. Friends gather in worhshipful silence waiting upon the leadings of the Spirit. Campus Friends Meeting welcomes all who wish to worship with us.
